About Olivia Lufkin
Olivia Lufkin is (in simple terms) totally awesome. I love her music, she never ceases to surprise and/or amaze me with her songs. Her lyrics are poignant and can be rough, but she always packs a punch with her songs. Pop singer or not, her words show that she's not just a doll that people can dress up and parade around. Her song 'Dress Me Up' proves that, it's almost a jab but not quite. That's what I mean about her lyrics. She's proud of who she is, and she isn't going to change it. It shows in her music. And it just makes me feel more connected to everything she sings.
I've gotten my hands on as many of her releases as I can afford. But I feel that she's someone I can connect with on so many levels through her music, her background, everything. It's rare to find a musician that I connect with so much and feel so strongly about. I hold her music and, hell, even Olivia herself, close to my heart because of the way listening to her songs makes me feel. It's empowering, and it makes me feel good about who I am whenever I listen to her sing. She's a strong young woman, and that's what every girl aspires to be.
Olivia's just broken her 2-year hiatus with a new single (A Little Pain) from the Nana anime. I love Nana (I'm a HUGE Ai Yazawa fan), so I think it's really awesome that she worked on a song from the anime. There are rumors (hopefully true ones!) that Olivia will do more work for the soundtrack. If not, it's cool, but I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for more releases! I've already preordered my copy of the single too. It's been too long since I've been able to buy a new release from Olivia.
About the Fanlisting
The phrase "Don't dress me up, I'm already dressed" comes from Olivia's song
Dress Me Up. Just so you can see where I'm coming from if you aren't familiar with her music, the lyrics to Dress Me Up can be found
here. It's my favorite Olivia Lufkin song, so I really had to use something from the song in the fanlisting somewhere. :)
If you're not familiar with a fanlisting, it's just a place for fans to gather (more or less). It's sort of like a web clique, you can list web sites, emails, and it's generally just a way for fans to contact each other and find others interested in the same things they are. If you'd like to find out more about fanlistings, please visit
tfl.org.
Credits
Firstly, I'd like to thank
TFL for approving me to run the fanlisting. That resulted in popping Synchronicity into the cd player and dancing around for 20 minutes (give or take).
Next, I'd like to thank the wonderful visitors (who all seem like really awesome people) of
Space Halo, the Olivia Lufkin livejournal community and
Olivia's MySpace Site for pictures, inspiration and helping me realize how much love for Olivia there really is. You are all completely awesome and even though I don't know any of you, I love you all.
Thirdly, I'd like to thank Lee of
1greeneye.net for making such awesome textures that I rely on way too much to make my web sites pretty. I don't know what I'd do without her, and she's probably got more links from my web site than anyone else does.
Lastly, I'd like to thank
Olivia for being so awesome and making such wonderful music. Without her, this site wouldn't exist, and my world would hold a lot more silence than it does. Thank you for being awesome, for making great music and for sharing even just a little bit of yourself with us.
